My Journey to Pain Science Physical Therapy
When I first became a physical therapist, pain was explained as a structural problem. We measured strength, range of motion, and movement patterns, and the goal was to “fix” the tissues. That worked for some, but not for everyone—and I saw how stress, weather, or trauma could make pain worse in ways the old model couldn’t explain.
Everything changed when I learned that pain isn’t just about tissues—it’s an experience shaped by the brain and nervous system. That insight transformed how I practice. Now, at Pain Science Physical Therapy, we blend movement, neuroscience, and education to help people understand their pain and take back control of their lives.
The Pain Science Approach
At Pain Science PT, we use a biopsychosocial model of care. We address movement and structure, but also explore how stress, sleep, nutrition, trauma, and fear of movement influence recovery. When needed, we collaborate with other providers to give patients comprehensive support.
Our mission is simple yet profound:
- Help patients move with less fear and more freedom.
- Guide them toward their goals—not just symptom relief.
- Change how people understand pain, creating hope in the process.
Our Vision
In 2021, we became the first trademarked pain-science-focused physical therapy clinic in the U.S. Today, patients and providers seek us out for this unique approach. With over 50 million Americans living with persistent musculoskeletal pain, access matters.
That’s why we’re expanding—beginning with our new Westlake/Seattle clinic and continuing to grow so we can serve more communities across Washington State.
