Welcome to Pain Science Physical Therapy. Our focus is on evidence-based treatment of persistent musculoskeletal pain.
Traditional treatment models rely on the use of exercise, manual therapy, and modalities such as heat, ice, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation to treat pain. But, these treatments are limited in their ability to treat persistent pain because they presume that musculoskeletal pain has a tissue-based cause.
The research evidence shows that pain is a complex sensory experience produced by the brain in response to perceived threats. Acute pain originating from a specific injury might respond well to more traditional treatment models, but this is often not the case for persistent pain.
Pain Science Physical Therapy relies on the latest science and information in neuroscience to treat persistent pain. We use several techniques, including pain neuroscience education, graded motor imagery, graded exposure to activities, as well as sensory retraining activities to help calm your nerve system so that you can begin to tolerate daily and higher level recreational and functional activities. We also use the more traditional treatments when the time is right for you. The goal at Pain Science Physical Therapy is to fulfill your movement goals.
