HISTORY OF PAIN SCIENCE PHYSICAL THERAPY (PSPT)

  • Pain Science Physical Therapy officially incorporated on March 23, 2009. At that time is was known as as Lake Burien Physical Therapy. And, the front doors opened for appointments on September 10th of that year. At that time, Owner, Dr. Orit Hickman, was seeing patients by herself.
  • From the outset Lake Burien Physical Therapy provided one-on-one sessions to patients. This extended visit time and personalized attention has been and will continue to be the core approach to patient care.
  • In 2010, Dr. Orit hired a full-time physical therapist to join her in the practice. For Dr. Orit this was the moment that the dream of LBPT felt real. The company was growing, and Dr. Orit was building a team of physical therapists who shared her philosophies.
  • In late 2012, Dr. Orit started attending pain science classes. In no time at all, she began teaching patients about pain science. This was an exciting and integral time in LBPT history. The impact that the concept of pain science has on people’s treatment is astounding.
  • Great expansion took place between 2015-2018. Art, yoga, meditation, Pilates, and SAIL classes were started for patients to have an outlet for their pain and discomfort. All of these new classes required more space, so in 2016, the clinic space doubled in size. Most importantly, LBPT expanded enough to begin offering private Pilates sessions to patients in 2017.
  • After all this expansion, Dr. Orit and the physical therapists were ready to take the show on the road! In 2019, they were starting to make plans to expand by opening more clinics.
  • However, when COVID-19 came in 2020, many projects were halted. There was a hard month early into the pandemic when the physical therapists could only provide care via telehealth appointments. Thankfully, soon after the State of Washington identified physical therapy as an essential service which allowed for the resumption of in-clinic appointments so patients were once again able to receive the in-person care they needed.
  • Also in 2020 the clinic implemented three practice improvement systems: The Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)5S, and Daily Management System (DMS).
  • As COVID’s impact begins to wane, Dr. Orit and the team are ready to resume the progress the clinic was making before the pandemic. In April of this year, the team worked with branding consultants, and they picked a new name for the company.
  • Look out for the unveiling of the new name and branding look in July!
