EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

Dr. Jamie Maslach received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Washington. She became a member of the APTA while studying at the University of Washington where she is a part of the orthopedic, pelvic floor, geriatric and research sections. She served as the President of the APTA Washington Student Special Interest Group from 2020-2021.

PERSONAL LIFE

Dr. Jamie’s friends would describe her as energetic, playful, and loving. She is a people person who loves working with all people.

She grew up on Bainbridge Island where she began dancing at Bainbridge Dance Center at the age of four. She was classically trained in ballet, modern, and jazz and was active on dance team. Her performative work at the University of Colorado and later in Seattle was mostly focused on contemporary and modern dance.

Her family immigrated from several different European countries. Her father’s family came from Italy and settled in San Francisco some generations ago and much of her extended family still lives in California. Each Christmas Eve, Dr. Jamie and her family carry on an over 100-year family tradition making hand-made ravioli and her great-grandmother’s sauce. They often shop at DeLaurenti’s in Pike Place Market for cold cuts, panettone, and other items to go with dinner.

Outside of work she enjoys attending live art such as concerts, dance performances, and plays. She also loves to go thrifting for unique vintage finds in Port Townsend and she recently started backpacking in the summer months.

WHY PHYSICAL THERAPY?

Dr. Jamie believes valuing and understanding movement is imperative to a healthy life and a healthy body. She was a dance major before realizing she wanted to pursue a career in physical therapy, and it gave her a unique insight into how the body can move through space and time. Her experience as a dancer helps her work with all patients including those who are or have been dancers.

One of her favorite parts of the job is getting to know what activities are most important to her patients and what is motivating their recovery. She believes we all have things that we want to return to doing, and finding ways to do so safely and more confidently is important work.

WHY PAIN SCIENCE PHYSICAL THERAPY?

Dr. Jamie was drawn to the mission of Pain Science Physical Therapy and its approach to pain – evidence-based treatment of the whole patient. Incorporating and prioritizing pain neuroscience education helps patients develop tools and better understand their overall pain experience. She loves being able to meet patients where they are in their physical journey and loves having the opportunity to offer them a fresh perspective that can help bring them relief.

One fun aspect of working at PSPT is having Orit’s dog, Murphy, moving about the clinic. His presence brings a joyful, comedic, and comforting aspect to the work environment.

Another positive aspect of the business is that the staff values connecting with one another outside of the clinic. Through Fun Days and supporting local community events, they connect with one another on a deeper level. The encouraging, mentoring, and warm culture of the clinic was especially attractive to her.

Dr. Jamie believes patients return to PSPT when they are needing care because the whole team, under Dr. Orit’s leadership, spends a significant amount of time learning how to educate patients about their pain and about how to recover from their injuries. The staff are not afraid to try new things as they live out a passionate pursuit of finding what works for each individual. This focus on ongoing education and tailoring treatment plans is an important aspect of care that helps patients feel they have been heard, cared for, and treated well.

In the next five years, Dr. Jamie hopes to see PSPT expand the company, clinical staff count, and the specialties it provides. She hopes to help expand the clinic’s list of specializations as she pursues expertise and certification in pelvic floor therapy.
