By nearly every metric, physical therapists and the patients they treat are suffering from mental distress. Working in physical therapy, we know that resources are severely lacking to fight the growing mental health crisis. Mental health providers are overbooked, out of network with insurance, or have an unaffordable copay for our patients. Many patients can’t get in to see a mental health provider for months, if at all.
Because of this, physical therapists now need to know more about mental health conditions than ever before – and feel confident in both assessing and managing these conditions. Without this knowledge and skill, it leads to burnout, traumatic stress, and poor mental health in physical therapists.
This is an out-of-control epidemic.
This training is structured around a holistic approach to mental health and mental well-being in the context of physical therapy practice. It begins by introducing the importance of mental health and its impact on clinical success. Participants will delve into common mental health challenges and learn to identify and address them effectively.
By the end of this course, professionals will be armed with a comprehensive toolkit to address mental well-being. This toolkit buffers stress for physical therapists and can be used to address patient mental health.
